Garden Club elects new officers

At a recent meeting at Dana Benjamin’s ranch in Upper Lake, the Clear Lake Trowel & Trellis Garden Club elected new officers for 2021-2022.  The officers are Carol Dobusch, President; Kitty Loberg, Vice President; Linda Pyers, Treasurer and Kathleen Steinberg, Secretary.

This was the first meeting the club since February, 2020.   Those in attendance reported that everyone was happy to see each other and to be able to visit and catch up on all the news. The group had its meeting outside on the lawn surrounded by a beautiful garden and a view of Benjamin’s blue ribbon Percheron horses.

Dobush will be having a planning meeting in July at her home.  She said this will be a key meeting to set the stage for the club’s activities for 2021-2022 including projects and grants.  “We need to get the club re-energized after being isolated from each other because of the COVID lock down.”

The club welcomes new members. For additional information call Carol 707 279-1169 . The CLT&TGC is a member of the Mendo-Lake District of the California Garden Club, Inc. Pacific Region and National Garden Clubs, Inc.

WASHINGTON D.C.

Thompson announces tax credit to cover the cost of paid leave for small businesses extended

On Monday, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that a tax credit to help local small businesses cover the cost of providing sick and family leave has been extended through September. This tax credit, created by the American Rescue Plan, allows workers to care for sick family members, take time off if they are sick and use paid leave to get a COVID-19 vaccination. It also supports small businesses that have been hit hard economically by the pandemic.

“As we continue to recover from both the health and economic impact of COVID-19, it’s critical we support families and small businesses that are struggling. This tax credit will boost small businesses that are trying to help their employees and allow workers to take care of their health.”

The American Rescue Plan established an advanceable, refundable tax credit that allows businesses with fewer than 500 employees to receive up to $17,110 per employee to give them up to 10 days of paid sick leave and up to 12 weeks of paid family leave through September 30, 2021. This credit is eligible to about 6 million businesses and more than 40 million workers. More information on how businesses can claim that credit here.
