MAXWELL — Sophia Gonzales pitched four solid innings for the victory and was backed by a strong hitting attack as the Westshore Little League 10-and-under Softball All-Stars staved off elimination by defeating Live Oak Little League 17-6 during a consolation-bracket game Tuesday evening in the District 2 Tournament at Maxwell.

Westshore improved to 2-1 in the double-elimination competition and will face a team it has already beaten, Sutter Area Little League, in the consolation semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Maxwell. Westshore defeated Sutter 11-5 in first-round action June 17 before falling 10-3 to Marysville on Sunday night.

If the Westshore All-Star can beat Sutter Area for a second time, they will advance to the consolation-bracket finals against Colusa on Thursday night at 7 p.m. The winner of that game will play winner’s bracket champion Marysville for the District 2 title beginning Friday. A second championship game would be held Saturday if Marysville loses because the tournament is double elimination and Marysville has yet to lose a game.

Jordyn Wurm’s three-run home run powered Westshore’s win over Live Oak Little League.
