AOY candidate Rascon ran his way into school’s record books during 2020-21 sports season

Undefeated during the COVID-19-shortened 2021 winter/spring cross country season, Middletown High School graduated senior Isaac Rascon recently concluded a brilliant four-year running career for the Mustangs, setting a number of personal-best times along the way. His dominance carried over to the spring track season when he broke school records in the 1,600-meter run and 3,200 meters. Rascon is a candidate for the Record-Bee's Athlete of the Year award for the 2020-21 school year, one that cost Rascon dearly as he was unable to advance to the postseason in either of his sports, both canceled by the coronavirus pandemic. Athlete of the Year male and female winners will be announced early next month along with the Coaches of the Year in girls and boys sports. Rascon is the third boy nominated for the award, joining Austin Pritchard (golf) and Will Aden (baseball), also of Middletown. Girls finalists that have been named so far are Zoey Petrie of Upper Lake and Joy Ingalls of Clear Lake. (Photo by Bob Minenna)
