LAKE COUNTY — The Lake County Fishing Club teams of Tyler Bryant-Payton Lyndall and Justin Gentle-Joey Gentle wrapped up competition in the Student Anglers Federation High School Fishing World Finals on Friday at Lake Hartwell, which borders South Carolina and Georgia.

The four Kelseyville fishermen were trying to earn a berth in Saturday’s final round but fell short of the cut. The Bryant-Lyndall team ended up 24th in the final standings while the Gentle-Gentle duo placed 74th overall.

First place went to Andrew Jones and Carson Underwood of the Hewitt-Trussville High School Huskies (Trussville, Alabama) with 10 pounds, 9 ounces for a limit of three bass. Will Hart and Logan Fisher of the Madison County Red Raiders (Georgia) were second with 10 pounds even for three fish, and Grady Johnson and Dawson Turner of the Osceola Anglers (Florida) came in third with 9-8 for three fish.

The top 10 teams all brought three-fish limits to the weigh scales and caught at least 8-2 during Saturday’s final round.

For the win, the Jones-Underwood team took home a number of lucrative scholarship offers from top college teams as well as the TBF (the sanctioning body of the World FInals), including a $128,000 offer from Drury University (Missouri), a $120,000 offer from Simpson University (Redding), a $90,000 ride from Kentucky Christian University, and a $56,000 offer from Bethel University (Minnesota).

The TBF is offering $12,000 in scholarship assistance to any college of their choosing.
