YUBA CITY — The Westshore Little League 8-10 baseball All-Stars fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a 7-2 loss to McKinleyville during the opening round of the Northern California Section 2 tournament at Yuba City.

Westshore played Susanvillle on Friday night in a must-win consolation-round game in the double-elimination tournament, which runs through early next week. Sutter Butte Little League is the tournament host.

McKinleyville scored four times in the top of the first against Westshore starting pitcher Shawn Rangel in his only inning of work. He allowed three hits and walked two. Westshore got one of those runs back in the bottom of the first. After both teams scored a run in the second inning to make it 5-2, McKinleyville tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the fifth.

McKinleyville finished with nine hits to six for Westshore. Chase Allred and D’Avian Horne had two hits apiece for Westshore.

If Westshore beats Susanville, it will play again Saturday at 8 p.m. against an opponent to be determined. Saturday’s winner plays an opponent to be determined Sunday at 7 p.m.

Westshore advanced to the Region 2 tournament after going undefeated (4-0) in the District 2 tournament.
