Westshore All-Stars stay alive with 10-1 win

Cruz goes 2-for-4, drives in three runs in lopsided victory

YUBA CITY — The Westshore Little League 8-10 baseball All-Stars rolled to a 10-1 victory over Susanville on Friday night in the consolation bracket of the Northern California Region 2 Tournament at Yuba City.

Now 1-1 in the double-elimination tournament, Westshore plays Chico Eastside Little League Saturday night at 8 p.m. in Yuba City. The winner advances on while the loser is eliminated. The tournament runs through Monday or Tuesday depending on if more than one championship game is needed.

A two-run error by Susanville sparked a four-run Westshore top of the first inning. Westshore added three runs in the second, another in the third and two in the fourth to go up 10-0 before Susanville scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth.

Four Westshore pitchers combined on a six-hitter. Chase Allred drew the start and went 1 1/3 innings, allowing no runs and two hits while striking out two and walking one.

Tino Cruz went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs to lead Westshore, which played a flawless game in the field.

Westshore Little League won the District 2 championship to reach the regional tournament.
