Clear Lake High School boys and girls soccer players, including Jose Rojas and Nancy Ruzicka, participated in a voluntary open field workout Thursday afternoon at the school’s practice field. Both squads last saw action in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic swept the nation, eventually canceling the 2020 season for Coastal Mountain Conference teams, which includes all of Lake County’s schools. Clear Lake’s girls return a handful of players from a 2019 team that went 12-9 and reached the North Coast Section playoffs under first-year coach Derick Fiske. The Clear Lake boys went 7-11-3 in 2019 in the final year of Shaun Hornby’s tenure as head coach but did reach the sectional playoffs with a late-season surge.
