“I appreciate all of this so much; you’ve all worked as hard as I have to make this possible and I couldn’t have done it without you. I never imagined I’d be here…but I am. You have no idea how grateful I am,” said Jenee Brooks.

Garamendi honors Olympian from Vacaville competing in Tokyo Olympics

Late last week, Congressman John Garamendi (D-St. Helena) applauded Robyn Stevens of Vacaville, who will represent his Congressional District and the nation at the 2021 Summer Olympic Games. Stevens will compete for Team USA in 20-kilometer race walk competition in the Olympics.

Last week, Garamendi met with Stevens and her family in Davis to present her with a Congressional Commendation.

“It was a pleasure to present Stevens with a Congressional Commendation to recognize her commitment to honest competition and the countless hours she has spent earning the opportunity to represent our nation at the Tokyo Olympics,” Garamendi said. “Her dedication and achievement will inspire others in her community to pursue their dreams and passions. She will represent Vacaville and our nation well in Tokyo, and I know I speak on behalf of the people of California’s 3rd Congressional District when I extend my sincere congratulations to Robyn as well as my best wishes for her success during the upcoming competition. We are all cheering for you!”

Public land mining claim fees and waivers due Sept. 1

The Bureau of Land Management reminds claimants who wish to retain mining claims on public lands through the 2022 assessment year to pay a maintenance fee or file a Maintenance Fee Waiver Certification on or before Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, to prevent the mining claim from being declared forfeit and void.

The maintenance fee for a lode claim, tunnel site or mill site is $165 per claim or site. For placer mining claims only, the fees are $165 for every 20 acres or portion thereof.  Claimants who filed a Small Miner’s Waiver in 2020 for the 2021 assessment year will be required to file an Affidavit of Annual Assessment Work form, including the required $15 processing fee per claim on or before Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021.

The BLM is following local, state, and federal guidelines on a phased approach to safely reopen in-person public access to visitor centers and public rooms in our California offices. The California State Office Public Room in Sacramento remains temporarily closed to in-person visits. Therefore, the BLM encourages submission of mining claims by mail or online.

For information on the filing deadlines, maintenance fees, Maintenance Fee Waiver Certifications or Federal Land Policy and Management Act filings please call the Information Access Center (Public Room) at 916-978-4400, or visit https://www.blm.gov/public-room/california.
