Garamendi hosts Work Day to discuss healthcare and infrastructure projects he’s fighting for in Washington

This week Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) worked with community leaders to review healthcare and infrastructure projects for which he secured funding in legislation that is moving through Congress. The goal is to build facilities that create new good-paying jobs, improve transportation, and bolster rural healthcare throughout the region.

First, Garamendi met with representatives from Winters Health Care to discuss a $500,000 grant that he secured in legislation that has passed the U.S. House of Representatives. If the legislation becomes law, the funding will support Winter Health Care’s new Capay Valley Clinic as it provides critical primary and dental care services for the underserved rural community.

Next, Garamendi met with Amarjeet Benipal, Director of Caltrans District 3, Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor, Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, and Sandra Sigrist, Executive Officer of Yolo County Housing, to tour the site of a major federal investment that Garamendi secured for the SR128/I-505 Overcrossing Project in Winters as part of the “INVEST in America Act,” which passed the U.S. House of Representatives. If enacted, the legislation would include $8,540,000 in funding that Garamendi secured to modify the SR128/I-505 interchange ramps in Winters to provide safer crossings for pedestrians and bicyclists.

This project will connect a disadvantaged community that was cut off from Winters when I-505 was constructed. For years, members of this community have had to walk to school or to stores using an unsafe, treacherous highway bridge.

Finally, Garamendi met with CalTrans and Vacaville City Manager Aaron Busch to tour the city of the I-505/ Vaca Valley Parkway Corridor Multi-Modal Improvements Project in Vacaville.

This project advances the City of Vacaville’s goal of becoming the bioresearch and manufacturing center in California. The project connects the Kaiser Medical center, the Solano Community College campus, and the Genentech bio-manufacturing facility with the growing bio center on the west side of I-505. If enacted, this legislation would help get this project across the finish line and benefit the community by creating new jobs and improving traffic flow throughout the region.

“In Washington, I work every day to provide the federal support our communities need to offer quality healthcare to all, build modern infrastructure with American materials and workers, and create new middle-class jobs with good wages,” Garamendi said.

“Thank you to everyone who participated in my district work day today. I will work tirelessly back in Washington to ensure Congress passes the legislation that would provide this vital support for our region,” Garamendi concluded.
