LAKEPORT— The Lakeport City Council will look to adopt amendments to their Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), set a public hearing date for a utility rate increase, receive a Fourth of July After Action report and accept a contract for the North Main Street project during their regular Tuesday meeting this evening.

The two CDBG grants are for the amounts of $241,394 and $27 million. The $27 million grant is from 2017 and is looking to include the addition of program income inside of the planning grant section.

The $241,394 grant is part of a COVID-19 CDBG grant that the city applied for. These grants have been discussed at previous council meetings.

The city will receive a 4th of July After Action report due to this year having specific changes to the event due to COVID-19. This will include both police and fire department operations during the event pertaining to the public’s use of fireworks.

It will also include data on the 30 day period surrounding the event, the celebration at Library park and the selling and igniting of safe and sane fireworks between July 1 and July 4.

During the 30 day period surrounding the Independence Day holiday, both the police and fire departments maintained staffing and were alert and prepared for fireworks related issues.

According to the staff report, the only arrest related to public safety inside of Library Park was a subject who was intoxicated and attempting to fight.

There were no significant public safety concerns due to safe and sane fireworks during the event that either department was aware of. Illegal fireworks remained a concern this year, but there was not an increase to incidents that had been reported in previous years.

The North Main Street project is looking to be awarded to Argonaut Constructors, Inc. for the amount of $577,106. The majority of this project will consist of milling and replacement of pavement from 4th Street to Clear Lake Avenue.

The Argonaut Constructors was the low bidder of this project.

City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Regular Council meetings begin at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, 225 Park Street.  The public is invited to attend all Council meetings although meetings have also been streamed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
