COBB — The field is set for the 38th annual Lake County Amateur Golf Championship at Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.
The two-day competition, which opens Saturday and concludes Sunday, is divided into championship, net and senior scratch and net flights.
Competing in the championship (scratch) flight will be Chip Bowlin, Wyatt Ferrell, Dylan Harrison, Darren Hostetler, Juan Lopez, Jerry Pendleton, Billy Witt and Pete Wotherspoon.
Net flight participants are Hostetler, Wotherspoon, Shane Boehlert, Todd Colbrandt, Rick Easter, John Langan, Nathon Lopez, Sean Mullins, Tom Salie, Billy Shaul, Mason Smith, Brett Whitaker and Enrique Monsante.
Senior flight entrants are Bowlin, Colbrandt, Easter, Langan, Pendleton, Salie, Whitaker, Witt, Jim De Cristofaro, Joe Del Prete, Richard Hoffman, Juan Lopez, Eddie Mullins, Mel O’Meara, Mike Patterson, Norm Rentsch, Steve Roe, Brian Stork, Armond Urbano and Sid Wagner.
Saturday’s pairings are Hostetler, Ferrell and Wotherspoon in flight 1A; Juan Lopez, Pendleton, Harrison and Witt in flight 1B; Nathon Lopez, Langan and Del Prete in flight 4A; Boehlert, Mullins, Smith and Monsante in flight 4B; Colbrandt, Wagner and Shaul in flight 5; Roe, Salie and Urbano in flight 6A; Bowlin, DeCristofaro and Rentsch in flight 6B; O’Meara, Mullins, Hoffman and Stork in flight 7; and Easter, Whitaker and Patterson in flight 8.
The 2021 Amateur field includes a pair of former three-time champions in Juan Lopez (1997, 2002, 2005) and Witt (2004, 2018, 2019). Both of these 50-somethings are a threat to win both the championship and senior flights this year.
Among other top contenders, Pendleton won the Adams Springs Directors Cup in July and its club championship for a second time in mid-August while Bowlin, Ferrell and Harrison all have a track record of performing well in this tournament.
The Lake County Amateur is the longest-running tournament of note in Lake County. It was first contested in 1975 and is the only remaining two-day, 36-hole tourney on the Lake County Amateur Golf Circuit.
