KELSEYVILLE — The annual Lake County Scrimmage for Lake County’s four North Central League I football entries — Clear Lake, Kelseyville, Lower Lake and Middletown — takes place Friday evening but has been moved from Lower Lake High School to Kelseyville High School.
The move was necessary after the Cache Creek Fire burned 80 acres and destroyed several structures Wednesday afternoon in Lower Lake. Fire crews were still attending to hot spots as the blaze was only 40-percent contained as of Thursday morning. Both Lower Lake High School and nearby Lower Lake Elementary School had to be evacuated during the fire, which forced many of the town’s citizens to flee their homes.
Junior varsity action begins at 5:30 p.m. and varsity scrimmages start at 6:30 p.m.
The scrimmage uses a round-robin format. Each team will scrimmage every other team for 20 minutes (10 on offense, 10 on defense). As of Thursday, only Kelseyville and Middletown were expected to send JV teams to the scrimmage. All four varsity teams are expected to take part.
Admission is $5.
The Lake County Scrimmage is a dress rehearsal for the start of the 2021 season, which opens a week from Friday for four of Lake County’s schools — Clear Lake, Kelseyville, Middletown and Upper Lake. Lower Lake’s first game is Sept. 3.
Upper Lake plays eight-man football and is not competing against its 11-man county rivals.
