It took a little doing to pull off this year's annual Lake County Scrimmage because of poor air quality conditions caused by smoke from wildfires around the north state, but the event, originally scheduled for Friday evening, did take place Saturday morning at Bill Foltmer Field in Middletown where air conditions were adequate. Prior to the start of play in the varsity division, the four varsity head coaches posed for a photo near midfield. They'll lead their teams into action beginning Friday night when the 2021 season starts for Clear Lake, Kelseyville and Middletown. Lower Lake has a bye week and opens Sept. 3. From left are Erick Larsen of Kelseyville, Mark Cory of Clear Lake, Jeremy Jakubowski of Lower Lake and Bill Foltmer of Middletown. Junior varsity teams from Kelseyville and Middletown also participated in the round-robin competition during which teams go head to head for 20 minutes, 10 on offense and 10 on defense.
