CLOVERDALE — Carmen Aceves scored a pair of goals and Yamilet Saucedo added another in Lower Lake’s 7-3 loss to the Cloverdale Eagles in North Central League I girls soccer action Tuesday in Cloverdale.

Team captain Margarita Cordova, one of only two seniors on the Lower Lake roster, picked up an assist as the Trojans fell to 0-3 in league play and 0-3 on the season. Cordova, a center/midfielder, turned in a strong performance against the Eagles, according to Lower Lake head coach Ana Duran.

“She took the role of captain and her job is to support her teammates,” Duran said of Cordova. “As a center/mid she’s in control of the whole field and she did a great job supporting her teammates. I’m proud of the job she is doing.”

Lower Lake still doesn’t have enough players (11) to field a complete team and Tuesday’s action was nine-on-nine.

“Thankfully they matched us because we only have nine players right now,” Duran said of the Eagles.

At Cloverdale, the Cloverdale Eagles shut out the Lower Lake Trojans in NCL I varsity boys action.

“Cloverdale is fast, they played really well as a team and kept our boys on their heels,” Lower Lake head coach Michael McMurtrey said. “They kind of overwhelmed us.”

Lower Lake center/midfielder Ricardo Perez did a good job for the Trojans all over the field, according to McMurtrey.

The Trojans fell to 0-3 in league play and 0-3 overall. They are home Thursday for a 4 p.m. game with Willits.
