LCSA delays string classes, community orchestra rehearsals due to COVID concerns

String classes and rehearsals for the new community orchestra originally scheduled to begin in September have been postponed by the Lake County Symphony Association. Sue Condit, conductor of the LCSA Community Orchestra, said the sign-up date for strings classes has been changed from September to December. Classes and rehearsals will likely start in January of 2022.

“We’re pleased with the high level of community interest in the classes and the community orchestra and have already sent emails to those who expressed interest in participating to inform them of the date change,” said Condit. “Unfortunately, due to the uptick in the Covid virus and new safety protocols necessary to keep everyone safe in rehearsals, we felt a delay was necessary.”

Condit says the situation will be reevaluated in December. “If everything looks good, we plan to start up on January 9, 2022.”

LAKEPORT

City honors fallen firefighters during National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Week

The trees in downtown Lakeport are glowing red this week in honor of firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.

Every October, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sponsors the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the official national tribute to those firefighters.

In 2017, the Foundation created Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters to recognize the 25th anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Since then, Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters has expanded to include fire departments and families lighting their homes in red.

As dusk turns to dark, landmarks, homes, fire service organizations, and businesses across the country will again glow in respect this week until October 3 to honor the fallen and their families.  The City of Lakeport joins this opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice of America’s fallen heroes.
