MIDDLETOWN — Middletown High School girl soccer head coach Ashley Hart called the Mustangs’ 4-1 North Central League I home win over the Cloverdale Eagles on Thursday afternoon their most complete effort of the season.

Middletown (10-1-1 league, 11-2-1 overall) may be getting warm at just the right time because there is only one more week remaining in the regular season. The Mustangs still have two important league games in front of them before the North Coast Section Division 1 playoffs begin. They hit the road Tuesday against Willits, then return home Thursday to play undefeated NCL I leader Roseland University Prep (12-0), the only team that has beaten Middletown in league play this season.

“Best game, best performance, we put it all together finally,” Hart said of her team’s victory over Cloverdale. “We’re completing all the things we’ve been working on in practice.”

With Zamora Rogers back in the lineup after sustaining an injury Tuesday in a 4-0 win at Kelseyville, the Mustangs opened up a 2-1 halftime lead on the strength of goals by Ellary Isherwood and Georgia Guerrero. Rogers scored twice in the second half to put the game away. She also had an assist as did Isherwood.

Hart said she was particularly pleased with the play of Harper Moreno, Alex Imbrunetti and Paige Astley.

Besides Rogers, another of the team’s recently injured players, Calista Hoskins, also was able to return to the pitch although her playing time was limited, according to Hart.
