ST. HELENA — Cleo McClain of St. Helena set a boys course record and Clear Lake’s Hannah Garrity won a seventh straight Coastal Mountain Conference race in girls cross country action Wednesday afternoon during a three-team meet near St. Helena.
Lower Lake High School rounded out the field on the 3-mile Bothe State Park course.
Boys
McClain cracked the 17-minute mark, hitting the finish line in 16:55 as the Saints beat the Trojans 21-38 in team scoring. Clear Lake was incomplete (fewer than five runners). Daniel Bratton of Lower Lake finished second in 18:51 and Diego Sanchez of St. Helena was third overall in 19:20. Rounding out the top five sports were Justice Penterman of St. Helena (19:22) and Jose Hernandez of Lower Lake (19:41).
Clear Lake’s Isaac Vigil, ninth in 24:29, and Lower Lake’s Aiden Hernandez, 10th in 24:49, also finished in the top 10.
Other Lake County runners in the field were Lower Lake’s Dylan Watson, 11th in 25:39, Clear Lake’s Luis Aguilar, 13th in 30:45, and Lower Lake’s Skyler Day, 14th in 44:50.
Girls
Garrity ran away from the field in the girls race, winning in 19:35. Melina Rubio of St. Helena was the runner-up in 25:42.
Three runners battled it out for third place and Clear Lake’s Lilianna Cruz claimed that spot at 26:23, just two seconds ahead of Erin Ries-Junker of St. Helena (26:25) and 11 seconds ahead of Talia Ricci of St. Helena (26:34).
Lower Lake’s Ava Andrews (27:35) and teammate Madison MaCall-Groves (27:35) were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Schedule
Clear Lake hosts Kelseyville and Roseland University Prep next Wednesday at Highland Springs to close out the CMC regular season while Lower Lake and Cloverdale travel to the Brooktrails course near Willits.
The CMC Championships follow on Nov. 10 at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa.
