Upper Lake High School varsity girls basketball head coach Mike Smith was hard at work Tuesday during a combined junior varsity and varsity practice at the school gym. The Cougars return virtually their entire starting lineup from the 2019-20 season when they went 22-6, won the North Central League II championship, reached the semifinals of the North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs, and qualifed for the NorCal playoffs. The Cougars open their season Nov. 22 at Mendocino. Their home opener is Nov. 30 against Clear Lake. (Photos by Brian Sumpter)
