LAKE COUNTY — Three of the seven Lake County players honored on the 2021 edition of the All-North Central League I volleyball team are from Clear Lake High School in Lakeport.

The number of All-League spots each team gets this year is based on a formula that takes into account league wins. The All-League team is divided into a first team with a MVP, a second team and honorable mentions. Coaches choose which of their players are honored.

Clear Lake High School seniors and All-League selections (from left) Zoey Pepper, Sydney Howe and Raina Clifton helped lead the Cardinals to a 20-6 record in 2021.

Undefeated league champion Roseland University Prep of Santa Rosa, a first-year member of the league, had four players honored, including MVP Rahasya Hernandez, a senior. Runner-up Fort Bragg and third-place finisher Clear Lake had the next most with three each, followed by Cloverdale, Willits and Kelseyville with two apiece, and Middletown, St. Helena and Lower Lake with one apiece.

First team

Clear Lake senior libero Raina Clifton was the only Lake County player to pull down first-team honors after helping lead the Cardinals to a 20-6 overall record and berth in the North Coast Section Division 5 playoffs. Fort Bragg seniors Lucy Hendricks and Jacie Clavelle also made the first team as did a trio of RUP juniors, Vanessa Estrada Rodriguez, Maria Isabel Estrada Godinez, and Netzach Hernandez Diaz.

Fort Bragg’s Clavelle is the only member of this year’s team who also earned All-NCL I honors in 2019 (second-team selection). There was no 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

RUP’s Hernandez, the 2021 MVP, was named the MVP on the All-NCL II team in 2019 while her teammate Diaz was an honorable mention.

Second team

Of the six players named to the All-NCL I second team, Clear Lake seniors Zoey Pepper and Sydney Howe made the cut along with the only sophomore on this year’s All-League team, Carmen Velazquez of Fort Bragg. Also honored were Cloverdale seniors Summer Lands and Lillian Robledo, and Willits senior Lily Barrett.

Honorable mentions

Of the six players to receive honorable mentions, Kelseyville seniors Emily Sandoval and Larue Furlani join Middletown junior Camille Schaffer, Lower Lake junior Avery Adamcyk, Willits senior Kiley Rose and St. Helena junior Ella White.
