FREMONT >> The Konocti Youth Soccer League Strikers, an under-14 girls traveling soccer team, went 4-0 to win a tournament last weekend in Fremont, including a 3-2 shootout victory in the championship game.
The Strikers battled the Fresno Metro to a 1-1 tie in regulation play in the championship game, setting up a shootout to determine the tournament winner. The Strikers won 3-2 to claim first place.
In earlier action, the Strikers opened tournament play with a 2-1 win over the same Fresno Metro team they beat in the finals. They went on to beat the Lodi All-Stars 4-0 and the Hollister Tremors Chivitas 2-0 to reach the championship game.
“There’s nothing like winning a championship game from a tiebreaker shootout at the end of the game,” Konocti Youth Soccer League president Wayne Yahnke said.
