Hotcakes for Heroes on Sunday

Operation Tango Mike and the Kelseyville Lions will co-host “Hotcakes For Heroes” on Sunday, December 12.

The breakfast will feature hotcakes, along with choices of sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy.  Beverages include juice and coffee.  You may also order the deluxe version, by simply requesting “the works.”

Operation Tango Mike volunteers will take orders and serve patrons.

Santa will join us for breakfast, so bring your camera!

The event will run from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Kelseyville Lions Club, 4335 Sylar Lane, with a suggested donation of $8.

Proceeds benefit Operation Tango Mike in the ongoing effort to ship monthly care packages to deployed military personnel.

Operation Tango Mike is approaching 19 years of supporting the troops and having shipped more than 23,000 care packages.

Currently, monthly shipping fees alone average nearly $2000.  Coupled with the increasing costs of care package supplies, the all-volunteer non-profit spends in excess of $4,000 per month to send the much needed and appreciated care packages.

Lake County Women’s Civic Club welcomes new members, provides funds for local programs

Lake Co Women’s Civic Club was thrilled this last Friday, Dec 3, with the return of eight of the 11 women who were with us for their first lunch/general meeting of the month.  They all filled out application forms and we are so happy to welcome Susan Lucatorto, Val Schweifler, Jennifer Richardson, Monica Rosenthal, Trena Pauly, Laura Johnson, Trista Fossa and Sharon Leckbee into the club!!

It is always a wonderful day when we are able to provide funds ($240) and food to Lake County Gleaners and at this time of year our members go the extra mile to provide funds ($910) and toys for Toys for Tots!
LCWCC will also be donating $150 to the Holiday Food Program being sponsored by Lake Family Resource Center in honor of members we lost over this last year: Pat Norcio, Marsha Murray and Gloria Coyne.

To wrap up our last meeting of the year, we all enjoyed an afternoon of lively Christmas caroling with the, always playful and entertaining, My Divas!

Lake County Women’s Civic Club meets on the first Friday of every month, except July and August, at Riviera Hills Restaurant. Meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at 12:15 and an informative speaker at 1 pm. If you are interested in joining us…we are a very friendly and welcoming group…please call club President Helen Finch at 707-972-1807.

State Assembly maps near completion

Here’s some more redistricting news from CalMatters’ Sameea Kamal: California’s independent redistricting commission took a big step Monday night toward finalizing its map of state Assembly districts. After many compromises and some large-scale changes to preliminary maps approved last month, commissioners say the Assembly map is one they can “live with” — one that is legal, even if it falls short of incorporating all the community input received. The commission did respond to criticism by splitting a proposed Assembly district that would have stretched about 600 miles from Inyo County up to Siskiyou and Modoc counties at the Oregon border. Although changes are still possible, as it stands now, some incumbents could be drawn out of their districts.

What’s next: The commission will work on the congressional maps this week, followed by state Senate and Board of Equalization districts. It must submit final maps to the Secretary of State by Dec. 27.
