HEALDSBURG — Ukiah’s full-court press took the Clear Lake Cardinals out of their offense from the start as the Wildcats rolled to a 64-30 win in the girls consolation championship game of the Redwood Empire Invitational Basketball Tournament on Saturday in Healdsburg.
“We had a lot of turnovers,” Clear Lake head coach Phil Psalmonds said. “We tried to press them back and that led to a lot of transition baskets (for the Wildcats).”
Ukiah had a 17-5 lead after one quarter and continued to pull away as the game progressed. It was 36-18 at halftime and 56-23 through three quarters.
Montana Wells led the Cardinals (3-4) with 11 points and All-Tournament selection Sydney Howe added seven more. Abby Mertle had five points.

Kelseyville travels to Lower Lake for a North Central League I game on Tuesday before returning home Thursday for its 6 p.m. opener in the Stokes Tournament.
Paradise 48, Lower Lake 41
At Durham, Paradise defeated Lower Lake in the seventh-place game of the Durham Tournament, dropping the Trojans to 0-6 on the season.
“We’re in these games, but we’re so beat up right now,” Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said of multiple injuries that have slowed the Trojans all season. “Once I get healthy we’re going to be OK.”
Margarita Cordova scored 18 points to power Lower Lake against Paradise while Kyleigh Mock added nine points.
“We had a good chance against Paradise,” Tubbs said. “They had one girl who scored 18 points in the first half, but we held her to only three in the second half. We couldn’t make the right adjustments.”
Paradise led 29-23 at halftime and 41-30 going to the fourth quarter.
Losing Rebecca Theodorou, one of the team’s top rebounders, to an ankle injury didn’t help, according to Tubbs.
“She rolled her ankle earlier and played limited minutes against Paradise, but she rolled it again,” Tubbs said. “That’s kind of been the story of our season, one injury after another.”
Lower Lake hosts Kelseyville (0-4) in a North Central League I game on Tuesday.
