MIDDLETOWN — Brandon Costlow went 5-for-5 at the free-throw line and finished with a team-leading 11 points as the Middletown High junior varsity boys basketball squad rolled past the Lower Lake Trojans 56-19 in the North Central League I opener for both schools on Monday night in Middletown.
Middletown (1-0 league, 3-1 overall) didn’t score a single point in the fourth quarter and had only five points in the second half as head coach Jake Diehl emptied his bench. The Mustangs led 48-8 at halftime.
“I’ve got 14 guys on my roster,” Diehl said.
Bodhi Moore and Jackson Conley scored 10 points apiece in the win.
“They all came together,” Diehl said of his players’ strong outing. “They all gelled.”
JV girls basketball
Middletown 45, Lower Lake 28
At Middletown, Lower Lake’s Atasha Oppus and Ayla Ales scored seven points apiece, but the Trojans fell to the Middletown’s JV girls squad din the league opener for both teams.
Aliana Barnes had six points for the Trojans.
