
KELSEYVILLE — Eight varsity boys teams and six varsity girls teams are entered in the 49th annual Stokes Invitational Basketball Tournament that opens Thursday and runs through Saturday at Kelseyville High School.
Competing in the girls bracket is defending champion Upper Lake along with Middletown, Lower Lake, Point Arena, Ferndale and tournament host Kelseyville.
In first-round girls games Thursday, Upper Lake plays Middletown at noon, Lower Lake plays Point Arena at 3 p.m., and Kelseyville takes on Ferndale at 6 p.m.
Competing in the boys bracket are Upper Lake, Middletown, Lower Lake, Ukiah, Else Allen (Santa Rosa), Forest Lake (Auburn), Willits and host Kelseyville. Willits, a last-second replacement, has only two games open on its season schedule and will play only Friday and Saturday in the consolation bracket. Kelseyville also skips Thursday’s first round and plays Friday and Saturday in the winner’s bracket.
In first-round boys games Thursday, Elsie Allen plays Upper Lake at 1:30 p.m., Middletown plays Forest Lake at 4:30 p.m., and Lower Lake plays Ukiah at 7:30 p.m. Kelseyville’s first game is against the Elsie Allen-Upper Lake winner on Friday at 6 p.m. Willits’ first game is against the Elsie Allen-Upper Lake loser on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
When the Stokes Tournament was last contested in December of 2019 (there was no tournament in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic) Cloverdale defeated Ukiah in the boys championship game.
