ORLAND — Las Plumas HIgh School of Oroville rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat the Clear Lake High School junior varsity boys basketball team 53-48 in a second-round game Wednesday night at the Orland JV Tournament.
“In the fourth quarter we gave up too many offensive rebounds and they capitalized,” Clear Lake head coach Shady Cerezo said of the Thunderbirds. “There were 50-50 balls that didn’t go our way.”
Raul Reyes and Vicente Ortega led the Cardinals (5-5) with 15 points apiece while Graden Greer added 12.
Earlier Wednesday against Hamilton City in a first-round game, Greer scored 15 points and Reyes had 12 as the Cardinals rolled to a 45-25 victory.
“We dominated them from the start,” Cerezo said.
Clear Lake allowed only nine first-half points while buidling a 29-9 lead.
“We pressed them, caused a lot of turnovers and got a lot of easy transition baskets,” Cerezo said.
The Cardinals play tournament host Orland Thursday at 1:30 p.m. as the tournament wraps up.
