CLOVERDALE — Cloverdale improved to 11-0 on the season at the expense of the Lower Lake Trojans on Monday night, the Eagles rolling to a 72-35 victory in North Central League I varsity boys basketball action at Cloverdale.
“They’re a pretty good team,” Lower Lake coach Jay Jakubowski said of the Eagles, who also improved to 2-0 in league play as the Trojans dropped to 0-3 in the NCL I standings and 0-10 overall. “They trap and full-court press on defense. That press early on got us frazzled and we gave up a lot of layups,” Jakubowski said of a 29-7 Cloverdale first quarter.
“We settled down a little bit in the second quarter although they still scored 17 points,” Jakubowski said.
Cloverdale took a 46-17 lead into halftime.
Jakubowski took over the team nearly three weeks ago when former head coach Marcus Humphrey stepped down.
“We’ve got talent, but we’re not playing together (yet),” Jakubowski said. “They don’t know how to win yet. Over the next week or two I think you’ll see some improvement. It’s up to them buying into some of the changes we’re making.”
Marquis Jones led the Trojans with 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Micah Gurule added seven points and a 3-pointer.
Lower Lake is home Wednesday night to play Willits.
Lower Lake’s junior varsity team forfeited to Cloverdale.
