LAKEPORT — Gary Collins and John Pearl of Upper Lake won the NewJen Bass team tournament held Saturday on Clear Lake with a winning weight of 25.23 pounds.

Collins and Pearl, who collected $4,525 for their victory, edged out the runner-up team of Nate Smith and Christian Ostrander with 24.73 pounds ($2,790) and the third-place team of David Burruss and Tyler Walters with 24.02 pounds ($1,930).

The tournament drew 78 teams and most of those weighed in five-fish limits at Library Park in Lakeport. Big-fish honors went to Ronald Lorenzo Jr. with a 9.53-pounder. Lorenzo and partner Debbie Weber placed ninth overall with 22.24 pounds ($1,105). The eighth-place team of Shane Robertson and Daniel Andrusaitis had the second biggest fish, an 8.34-pounder. They finished with 22.69 pounds ($725).

Rounding out the top five places were Steve Conselvi and Lee Bransteter in fourth with 23.51 pounds ($1,370) and Jody Jordan and JP Gano in fifth with 23.35 pounds ($989).

The tournament paid down to 15 places.

Average fish weight among the competing teams was 15.24 pounds. The average fish weight was 3.40 pounds.
