Mendocino College Lake Center hosts first event in over two years
On Thursday, March 17, the Lake Center welcomed nearly 200 students from Kelseyville High School, Clear Lake, and Upper Lake High Schools. This event focused on assisting students explore their educational and career opportunities with Mendocino College. Organizers noted that the day would not have been possible without the coordination of Lake Center Director, Monica Flores, and Lake Center Assistant Machiko Shimada, and of course the stars of the event, representation from student services (Foundation, CalFresh, Learning Center, MESA, Transfer Counseling, DSPS, Student Equity, NASRC, Lake Family Resource Center, CAMP, Financial Aid, and EOPS) and academic departments.
The high school students were so excited to see a college campus. A big thank you to all the folks who came together to help make this event a success. Especially, our local Kiwanis group, who sponsored over 400 hot dogs and chips for some very happy students.
We look forward to making this a yearly occurrence. Be on the lookout for an update from our North County Center College Day on Thursday March 31, and our upcoming Registration Fiestas on Thursday May 12 at the Lake Center, and Friday May 13 at the Coast Center. As well as our Job Fair at the Coast Center on May 13.
