Lake County’s Konocti Christian Academy gears up to host its 15th Annual Lake County Renaissance Faire Fundraiser at the Lake County Fairgrounds May 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event takes a walk back in time to the Renaissance era with costume, theater, games, activities, food, and song. Guests will enjoy Shakespeare plays presented by nearly 100 KCA students.

“Each year our children and faculty pour a great deal of love and effort into planning the Renaissance Faire Fundraiser.  The event has become a great point of pride for our school, and we are excited to share it again with our community.” KCA Principal Meredith Wiser explained.

The Renaissance Faire Fundraiser includes music, live and silent auction, booths, feasting fit for a king, activities for the entire family, live performances, and so much more.

Ticket prices range from $10-$45 and sponsorships are available. To purchase tickets, become a sponsor or to make a donation, visit Eventbrite, KCA’s Facebook page, or at KCA by calling 707-262-1522.

Konocti Unified celebrates flipping the switch on new solar system on Friday

On Friday at 2 p.m., Konocti Unified School District (KUSD) invites the public to attend its Flip the Switch event, where school board members and Superintendent Becky Salato will activate the district’s new solar-powered electrical system. The event will be at the district office located at 9430B Lake St. in Lower Lake.

“At Konocti Unified, we’re interested in setting up sustainable, resilient facilities,” Superintendent Salato said. “Using renewable solar power decreases our expenses, and allows us to put resources toward other student needs.”

The solar panels installed at four KUSD campuses provide power not only for those sites, but for three additional District sites. This is part one of a two-part plan to install energy efficient technologies as part of KUSD’s modernization plan. The District’s technical partner, Climatec, projects an 83% reduction in energy usage and $20 million in general fund relief over the useful life of all equipment once the whole plan is implemented.

The plan includes the solar panels as well as smart-building automation technologies, LED lighting, and modernized HVAC systems to reduce energy use and create classrooms optimal for student and staff health and success. The HVAC units incorporate state-of-the-art ventilation consisting of advanced MERV 13 filters and outside air economizers for greater indoor air quality. Meanwhile, structural reinforcements, protective solar netting, and power resiliency through backup power systems provide newfound independence from PG&E’s electrical grid.

“The solar panels represent a huge step forward for Konocti Unified, and this is just the beginning. We will continue to seek technology and solutions that can enhance our district,” Superintendent Salato said.
