Ostrander strikes again at Clear Lake

Turlock fisherman part of winning team in NewJen tournament

LAKEPORT — One week after winning the pro division of the Wild West Bass Trail Clear Lake pro-am at Clear Lake, Turlock’s Christian Ostrander struck again Saturday, pairing with Nate Smith to win the NewJen Bass team tournament with a five-fish limit of 24.86 pounds.

In an incredibly close finish, the top three teams were separated by half a pound and the top four teams by .80 pounds. Ostrander and Smith also caught second biggest fish of the tournament, which weighed 7.37 pounds. They collected $11,005 in all, which includes a $5,000 Skeeter Cup contingency award.

Close behind the Ostrander-Smith team were Travis and Tyler Bounds, second with 24.44 pounds ($3,420); Scott Chappell and Sam Giampaoli, third with 24.36 pounds ($2,440); and Gary Collins and John Pearl of Upper Lake, fourth with 24.06 pounds ($1,685). Rounding out the top five places were Sandy and Bryan McGeoch of Lakeport with 23.67 pounds ($1,222).

Scoring top-10 finishes were Daniel Fonte and Greg Troughton with 22.91 pounds ($931), sixth place; Mike Rothstein and Adam Martin with 21.95 pounds ($688), seventh place; Ryan and Travis German with 21.79 pounds ($350), eighth place; James Fritz with 21.50 pounds ($340), ninth place; and Tom Jolin and Frank Ono with 21.32 pounds ($330), 10th place.

The top 18 teams out of 97 entered placed in the money.

Big-fish honors went to the 18th-place team of Nick Gillotte and Wade Durling with a 7.57-pounder.
