ST. HELENA — Lower Lake’s Elijah Cooke won the shotput and discus during the Trojans’ season-opening track meet Wednesday afternoon at St. Helena High School.

Kelseyville, Calistoga and the host Saints rounded out the four-team meet.

Varsity boys

Cooke, a senior, won the shotput in 38 feet even and the discus in 97 feet, 11 inches.

Cooke’s teammate, fellow senior Tristan Ales, placed third in the shotput (32-10 ¾) and third in the discus (79-7).

Lower Lake added another first in the triple jump as Mitchell Noble cleared 34-6, and teammate Adrian Salazar was second (32-10). Noble also placed second in the long jump at 17-0.

In the high jump, Lower Lake’s Thomas Jones cleared 5-0 to come in second.

Lower Lake picked up a third in the 100 meters where Jon Fabela finished in 12.52 seconds.

Also for the Trojans, Leo Brown placed third in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 19.34 seconds, third in the 1,600 (5:27), and fourth in the triple jump (29-3).

Girls

Kelseyville’s Elizabeth Walker, a sophomore, won the high jump with a leap of 4-2 with Lower Lake’s Laniese Lopez coming in second (3-10) and Kelseyville’s Cherish Krohn third (3-8). Walker added a second-place finish in the 100 (14.01).

Kelseyville picked up another win in the 3,200 where Carly Vanderwall crossed the finish line in 15:37.31. Vanderwall added a third in the 1,600 (6:59.25).

In the field events, Lower Lake’s Katelyn Farrell registered seconds in the shotput (20-7) and discus (63-11), placing behind Calistoga’ Andrea Villasenor in both events. Evelyn Campbell of Lower Lake was third in the shotput (18-1) while Kelseyville’s Ashley Hobbs, a freshman, was third in the discus (49-8).

Lower Lake’s Yamilet Saucedo picked up fourths in the 100 (14.67) and 200 (30.21).

JV boys

Freshman Rotsen Pelcastre of Lower Lake won the 400 (1:00.87) and the long jump (15-3) while also adding a second in the 200 meters (27.61) where he finished behind teammate and event winner Fidel Alvarez-Ramos (26.71). Alvarez-Ramos was second behind Pelcastre in the 400.

Kelseyville’s Elliott Mayo won the 1,600 meters (5:25) and the discus (76-8) where the top three throwrts all were from Kelseyville. Alex Fordham came in second (62-9) and Joshua Watson was third (51-9).

Fordham also won the high jump (4-8) and Watson was first in the shotput (26-9) with teammate Joshua Fossa taking second (23-3) and Lower Lake’s Marcos Gutierrez coming in third (19-2 ½).

Kelseyville sprinters Ivan Villa-Gomez (13.94) and Bryan Vences (14.38) placed first and second, respectively, in the 100.

Schedule

Lower Lake, Middletown, Technology and Grace Academy travel to Cloverdale next Wednesday for a 4 p.m. meet. Kelseyville’s next scheduled meet is April 13 at home against Cloverdale, Calistoga and Technology.
