BUCKINGHAM — Miles Mattina fired a career-best round of 83 with three birdies to help the Clear Lake High School golf team shoot a school-record 366 Tuesday during a Coastal Mountain Conference North golf match at Buckingham Golf and Country Club, the Cardinals’ home course.
Clear Lake (11-1) won its third straight CMC North match as runner-up Fort Bragg (9-3) could only manage a 397. Willits came in third with 513 and Mendocino, which is on spring break this week as is Clear Lake, did not show up for the match. Team scores are the total of the four low individual rounds for each school.

Medalist for the fourth straight week was Clear Lake senior Nathon Lopez with an 8-over-par 82 that featured two birdies. In fact, Lopez, Mattina and Peyton Ewing (94) had the low three rounds on a day when the Cardinals broke the school’s previous best team score by eight strokes.
“Nate would have told you he could have done a lot better and Ewing, too,” Clear Lake head coach Ted Mattila said. “That was Mattina’s best round of the season.”
North golfers enjoyed pleasant weather conditions for the third week in a row.
“Overall it was just wonderful to play in,” Mattila said.
While the Cardinal have won the North title before and are leading the conference again this season, Mattila said this team may be his best.
“Win, lose or draw this is a really good group of players,” Mattila said.
Keara Alonso’s round of 107 rounded out the team scoring. Also for Clear Lake, Brooke Hinchcliff finished with 115 and Jadan Martinez had 134.
Clear Lake hits the road next Tuesday to play at Little River in Mendocino, which hosted the CMC North opener last month.
