AMERICAN CANYON — Middletown High School’s Bodhi Moore fired the day’s low round of 86 to help the Mustangs top the field Wednesday during a Coastal Mountain Conference South match at Chardonnay Golf Club in American Canyon.

Middletown finished with a score of 360 (the total of its four lowest individual rounds) to easily beat St. Helena (385), led by Micah Meraz Ha’s 92. Technology of Rohnert Park came in third with 456. The other three South teams — Kelseyville, Credo (Rohnert Park) and Victory Christian (Santa Rosa) — all had fewer than four players and were incomplete.

The victory keeps Middletown, the defending South champ, right on St. Helena’s heels in the South standings with three matches left this season. The Saints are 23-2 to the Mustangs’ 22-3. Technology is a distant third at 15-10.

“It’ll probably be like last year and go down to the wire,” Kelseyville head coach John Berry said of an exciting 2021 finish when Middletown beat out St. Helena for the South title on the final day of the regular season.

In the event the two teams end up tied in the final South standings when the regular season concludes, a four-on-four sudden-death tiebreaker would decide the champion, something that hasn’t happened since the mid-1990s, according to Berry.

Middletown handled a difficult Chardonnay course the best on an overcast Wednesday afternoon that featured a two-club wind, according to Berry.

“The course played very tough today,” he said.

Only Moore and Technology’s Sebastian Maurice (89) shot sub-90 rounds. Middletown’s Luke Hoogendoorn had the day’s third best round at 90 followed by teammate Dom Williams at 91, Meraz Ha at 92, and Middletown’s Jaden Reese at 93.

Kelseyville, one player shy of being a complete team, was led by Lander Hockett’s 122 and Lizzy Malaspina’s 125.

Next up for the CMC South is an April 21 match at Sugarloaf Golf Course in Santa Rosa.
