City of Lakeport is forcing a South Main Street/Soda Bay annexing. Let us look north.
Many years ago north of town we had Lang Brothers Construction, Clear Lake Ready Mix and Wes Lampson (a former supervisor’s business) Septic Service; which was all in the area of our library. And then move up to Chase Bank: The former Lampson Pontiac site, across the street was former Lake Chevrolet now a body shop, Beside the body shop, which is now Lakeport Camper, was Clyde Carbanuu Nieson dealer? Next block south, we had Web Smith with International trucks and Plymouth cars. Now we go down to Davis Tire, former Bunger Buick and Rambler dealer. All gone because of the City of Lakeport’s unhealthy business practices.
Now they want to swallow up South Main/Soda Bay which is totally unfair.
I was sitting in the last meeting in the City of Lakeport, along with my business associate and several other property owners, and I have been analyzing everything since the meeting. Stacey Mattina, local business woman, has worked very hard for the City of Lakeport over the years; she’s also on the LAFCO board. I believe she has a conflict of interest. I knew her dad many years ago. He would probably say to her: “honey that is wrong.”
Ed Robey, former Lake County supervisor. I knew his dad many years ago. Moke Simon, who is now supervisor of the Middletown area, I knew his grandpa over 50 years ago; and if he was here, he would say: “No Moke that is wrong.” It would be just like him to annex the town of Hidden Valley Lake into Middletown; if so, he would have a war in his hands in minutes. I know him to be a smart guy and a good guy and I believe at this time he is getting the big push, that has not been put into common sense. But he does have common sense.
We have one more supervisor on the LAFCO board at this time, Bruno Sabatier. I believe that we have been paying taxes to our County for many years, and that we are getting sold out to the city by our county supervisors, which is totally unfair, poor business practices and without any consulting to the property owners by the county, with just a major get out of the way attitude…we are coming any way!
I believe at this time the property owners of South Main/Soda Bay area are banded together enough to put the brakes to LAFCO and our county officials that are playing politics with city officials. Only time will tell. And when we all vote, I believe the County of Lake will look stupid and the City of Lakeport will get derailed with their runaway train.

Mike Thompson quit hiding from challenges
As I write this, it has been four and a half years since I first challenged my corporate opponent, Mike Thompson, to a debate on the issues. This challenge was delivered by mail and in person, as well as through social media and in the letters to the editor section in The Record-Bee. Still, he refuses, not just to debate me, but any of his opponents for more than a decade.
Why? He’s afraid to have his views challenged publicly. He’s afraid that you, reader, will discover the truth about his hypocrisy, inaction and outright dishonesty. He is a political coward, who is on a coast, simply following the party line on just about every issue. That isn’t loyalty to you, the voter. That isn’t serving you. That’s serving his party. No party is 100% good, just as no party is 100% bad. This country is having major issues right now, and the people deserve to hear the truth, deserve to hear opposing viewpoints and solutions they may not have been considered. The people also deserve to have elected officials who are accountable to answer for their policy decisions and share their views about how we move forward. Because of Mike, there has been no Congressional debates for more than a decade, because he knows the League of Women Voters won’t host an event if even one candidate is absent, so all he has to do is make himself unavailable. It’s cowardice. To Mike I say: Quit hiding from challenges. If you’ve got nothing to fear, debate will only make you stronger. And to the reader I say: you can make a debate happen if you bombard him with calls and letters. How about it, Mike?
