ST. HELENA — With Lower Lake High School pitcher Jessica Hernandez taking a well-earned day off after pitching complete games Monday against Middletown and Tuesday against Fort Bragg, the Trojans fell 16-1 in five innings to the undefeated St. Helena Saints on Wednesday afternoon in North Central League I softball action at St. Helena.
St. Helena improved to 8-0 in the league standings, the same record as Fort Bragg. The two teams don’t meet until May 13 in Fort Bragg where they’ll play a doubleheader that could decide the NCL I race.
Playing its third game in three days, Lower Lake (2-8, 3-9) managed just two hits — singles by Norma Trimble and Becca Theodorou. St. Helena scored seven times in the bottom of the first and nine more times in the second to go up 16-0. Lower Lake broke up the shutout with a run in the fourth.
Trimble, a freshman, pitched the final three innings.
Lower Lake was scheduled to host Cloverdale on Friday but that game has been postponed and rescheduled for sometime next week.
