LAKE COUNTY — A trio of Middletown High School golf team members has been named to the All-Coastal Mountain Conference South first team following the Mustangs’ runner-up finish this season.
Middletown placed a close second behind St. Helena in the race for the South championship, which went down to the eighth and final match of the season. Both teams are moving on to the North Coast Section playoffs Monday at Valley of the Moon Golf Club in Santa Rosa, the Saints as conference champions and the Mustangs as an at-large team.
Middletown golfers earning first-team honors are senior Luke Hoogendoorn, sophomore Cooper Johnson and freshman Bodhi Moore. Middletown sophomore Dom Williams was named to the All-Conference second team along with Kelseyville’s Lander Hockett and Lizzy Malaspina, both seniors.
The conference scoring champion and most valuable player is sophomore Sebastian Maurice of Technology High School of Rohnert Park. Other first-team selections are St. Helena seniors Miles Dunham and Rehn Bothof and sophomore Micah Meraz-Ha, and Credo High School sophomore Luke Gruendle.
Joining Williams, Hockett and Malaspina on the All-Conference second team are St. Helena’s Andrew Hileman, a junior, and sophomore Jonah Anders; Technology juniors J.T. Byrne and Cole Potter; and Credo senior Gavin Whitright.
Middletown and St. Helena are two of 13 teams advancing to Monday’s sectional playoffs in Santa Rosa where they’ll be joined by Berean Christian (Walnut Creek), Branson School (Ross), Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa), Clear Lake, Eureka, Head-Royce (Oakland), Justin-Siena (Napa), Marin Catholic (Kentfield), Miramonte (Orinda), University (San Francisco) and St. Mary’s (Albany). Each team consists of five golfers.
In addition to the 13 teams, 75 at-large golfers are participating in the sectional tournament. The low 18 scorers advance to the Tournament of Champions the following Monday at Lone Tree Golf and Event Center in Antioch.
