Seniors Hernandez, Smith, Mock help lead the way against Willits

LOWER LAKE — One of six seniors honored during pre-game ceremonies as the Lower Lake Trojans played their final home game of the season, Jessica Hernandez certainly went out in style during a 12-4 North Central League I softball win over the Willits Wolverines on Monday afternoon.

Hernandez struck out 12 while pitching a complete game and she went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs, including a RBI double and a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning to cap Lower Lake’s scoring.

Mackenzie Smith, another senior, also did well as she went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including a run-scoring single in the second and another RBI single during Lower Lake’ four-run third inning that snapped a 3-3 tie and put the Trojans ahead to stay. And still another senior, Kyleigh Mock (1-for-5), inished with three RBIs.

Hernandez, Smith, Mock and fellow seniors Whisper Davis, Amy Vargas and Jenna White received flowers and were introduced along with their parents prior to the game’s start. Each player delivered a short speech.

Lower Lake scored in every inning except the fifth.

Norma Tremble, a freshman, also had a RBI single for the Trojans, who improved to 4-9 in league play and 5-10 overall. Lower Lake closes out its season Tuesday in Kelseyville at 4 p.m.
