FORT BRAGG — Middletown High School’s Baron Chang, a sophomore, and Bryan Sanchez, a freshman, finished one-two Thursday during the pole vault finals in the North Coast Section Class A Championships at Fort Bragg High School.

All other track and field events in the Class A Championships are contested Saturday at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa. The top three finishers in each event automatically advance to the NCS Meet of Champions May 20-21 at Dublin High School. The Meet of Champions is the qualifier for the CIF State Track and Field Championships May 27-28 at Buchanan High School in Clovis.

Chang cleared 8 feet, 6 inches to come in first at Fort Bragg. Sanchez was second at 7-6.

In the girls division, Lindsay Recker of College Prep High School of Oakland topped the field at 9-10. Fort Bragg’s Ashlynn Johnson cleared 9-0 for second place and Faith Dyogi of Lick-Wilmerding High School of San Francisco was third at 8-8.

Going into Saturday’s other events at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, Lake County athletes among the top seeds are Middletown’s Nadav Dicovski (No. 2 in the triple jump) and Upper Lake’s Erick Espinoza (No. 3 in the 100 meters).
