Wings of Hope Three-Day Camp and family support groups

Hospice Services of Lake County staff and volunteers compassionately responds to the unique ways children and families grieve and heal from the death of loved ones, offering multiple services including the free annual Wings of Hope three-day camp for families with children ages 5 years and older and family support groups held monthly.

Interested families are invited to learn more about attending the next three-day overnight camp scheduled for Monday, May 23, through noon on Wednesday, May 25, at a local resort surrounded by nature. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Daily activities at camp are designed for healing from loss and grief in a fun and positive environment featuring Josh Robinson, nationally renowned and gifted percussionist, who uses drumming as a powerful tool for exploring and expressing emotions while building teamwork and creativity. No musical experience is necessary.

Other camp activities include dog and equine therapy, music, art, swimming and nature walks. These vibrant activities are designed to assist participants in learning new coping skills, building opportunities to develop support systems. A $40.00 refundable deposit will be required to reserve space.

Hospice Services’ free family support group meetings, held 5 to 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month, offer opportunities for families to learn how loss uniquely impacts each member and how to use tools to support each other now and over time. Add in comfort food and fun activities and the stage is set for an evening of family togetherness.

For more information about family support groups or to register for the Wings of Hope camp, contact Kathleen or Jennifer at (707) 263-6222 or send a message via email to kbradley@lakecountyhospice.org.

Climate leaders launch historic California Climate Action Corps Fellowship recruitment

This week California Chief Service Officer Josh Fryday and California Secretary for Natural Resources Wade Crowfoot joined climate leaders to announce new fellowship projects and kick off recruitment for the California Climate Action Corps, the country’s first statewide climate corps.

In September, 115 fellows will be deployed throughout the state to support community climate action projects focused on urban greening, wildfire resiliency, and organic waste and edible food recovery. There will also be increased partnerships in rural communities, such as Butte County, and urban areas, such as Oakland. For the first time, tribal nations will host fellows to advance climate projects within their communities. A full list of fellowship partners can be found here.

California Climate Action Corps is currently accepting applications for 11-month fellowships with public agencies, tribes, nonprofits, and schools throughout the state to engage communities in climate action and education. Selected fellows will serve 1,700 hours and learn real-world climate action skills through community projects while also being part of this unique program and statewide force of emerging leaders.
Fellows will earn a stipend of $27,000 (spread over 11 months) and education awards of $10,000 upon completion to pay educational expenses at eligible schools and training programs or repay qualified student loans.

“One person’s energy, passion and leadership can make a difference combating climate change,” said California Secretary for Natural Resources Wade Crowfoot. “That’s why California Climate Action Corps is so important as a first-in-the-nation program to empower all Californians to take meaningful climate action now.”

Those interested in the program can learn more and apply at www.climateactioncorps.ca.gov.

Skylark Shores Resort’s Spring Fling Car Show a huge local success

Skylark Shores Resort’s first-of-the-season kick-off Spring Fling Car Show for the Northern California region was held on Saturday, May 7, 2022, and was a huge success, attended by local residents, friends and families, and car, truck, motorcycle, and boat enthusiasts from across northern California and the western United States.

The weather was sunny and crisp as 115 entrants, over 40% of whom were from out of the area, filled the oak tree-shaded, lush grounds of Skylark Shores Resort, nestled on the western shores of beautiful Clear Lake, which is also California’s premier bass fishing destination.

Hot rods, classic cars, Harley-Davidsons, and in-progress rebuilds abound as 25 total trophies were awarded with one Best-in-Show award given in each category.

Fantastic food and refreshments were provided by Santana’s Cafe & Catering and Terped-Out Kitchens, locally-produced jams and jewelry were available for purchase, as well as great past-era and cruisin’ music provided by DJ Ken Steely of D.J. & Karaoke Entertainment.

Skylark Shores would like to thank all of our sponsors and those individuals and groups who helped with the organization and logistics of the event.

We at Skylark Shores Resort look forward to seeing you all again at our next event.
