Clear Lake High School senior Sydney Howe is a finalist for the Lake County Record-Bee’s Athlete of the Year award based on her athletic accomplishments during the 2021-22 sports season. Howe, the county’s best shooter during the basketball season, earned All-League first-team honors while helping lead the Cardinals to a 10-3 league record and third-place finish and a berth in the North Coast Section playoffs. She also earned second-team honors in volleyball as a setter as the Cardinals went 12-4 in league (third) and 20-6 overall. They reached the quarterfinals of the sectional playoffs. Howe is one five candidates for the girls award. Athlete of the Year finalists must be juniors or seniors who compete in a minimum of two varsity sports and are in good academic standing at their respective schools.
