DUBLIN — Lake County’s seven track and field participants in the North Coast Section Meet of Champions Friday and Saturday at Dublin High School came up short in their bid to reach this weekend’s CIF State Championships in Clovis.
Only the top three finishers in each event at the Meet of Champions are guaranteed berths into the state meet. Middletown’s Amanda Hart, a sophomore, came the closest by taking third in her flight in the girls shotput and finishing 11th overall out of 24 competitors with a toss of 32 feet, 3 ¾ inches, which came on her third and final attempt.
The shotput winner was Ellie Roan of West County High School in Sebastopol with a mark of 39-9 ¾. It took a throw of 38 feet, ¼ inch to advance to state.
Hart was one of two Lake County girls and six Middletown athletes competing in the Meet of Champions. The other girl, also a sophomore, was Clear Lake distance runner Hannah Garrity, who missed the top-12 cut for Saturday’s finals during Friday qualifying. Garrity clocked in at 5 minutes, 31.54 seconds during the first of two 12-runner heats.
Sophia Nordenholz of Albany went on to win the 1,600 in 4:49.36. Brianna McInnis of Tamalpais claimed the final automatic berth into the state meet with a third-place time of 4:51.88. Fourth-place finisher Athena Ryan of Sonoma Academy also will advance to state because her time of 4:52.60 meets the CIF’s at-large standard (4:52.84) to qualify.

Nadav Dicovski of Middletown placed third in his flight during qualifying with a leap of 41-10 in the triple jump, which put the junior 16th overall in the final standings. Jacob Watts of James Logan High School (Union City) won the even at 46-4.
In the discus, senior Roberto Chaires finished 22nd with a throw of 113-3. Watts of James Logan High School finished first in 153-8.
