Lake County Women’s Civic Club donates $10,000 to Northshore Youth Club.

Lake County Women’s Civic Club opened up applications for the $10,000 to all local nonprofits in Lake County to apply. “There were numerous applications that came in and are all worthy causes and missions. It was difficult narrowing it down as there are so many needs here in Lake County” – Connie Conser, Lake County Women’s Civic Club Board Member stated. “Once we narrowed down the applications to the top six, we had each organization come to a board meeting to present on the need/project request of how the $10,000 will make an impact” stated President Helen Finch. On Friday at the Lake County Women’s Civic Club monthly meeting, they presented the Northshore Youth Club with a $10,000 check.

Northshore Youth Club (NYC) is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing and sponsoring local academic and extracurricular enrichment activities to all youth (ages 5 to 18 years old) to the Northshore and beyond. NYC provides high quality programs with a wide range of free or affordable opportunities for all Northshore families including but not limited to: Basketball league, football, cheer, and an amazing rock music camp to name a few.

Northshore Youth Club is 80% funded through donations and sponsorships and 20% funded through the minimal registration fees which cover the insurance and individualized gear that is needed to conduct various programs. “The funding provided by LCWCC is going to make a huge impact and will fund the following needs: financial sponsorship of under-privileged youth, purchase of much needed equipment and start of new programs such as arts, performing arts, poetry and photography programs and will provide much needed gear for the newly established and growing NYC wresting team” stated Mike Smith, the President of the Board of the Directors for the Northshore Youth Club.

Lake County Women’s Civic Club’s mission is to serve in ways that will make our community a better place for citizens. “By enhancing the lives of youth, we are working towards enhancing the future of Lake County” – said Julie Hernaez, LCWCC past President. “I couldn’t be more proud of our club and the organization that we chose for the $10,000 donation. We know this is going to make an impact for years to come” said President Helen Finch.

KELSEYVILLE

Community Veterans Outreach scheduled

Lake County Vet Connect members will host a quarterly mobile Stand Down, an outreach event for local veterans who are homeless or experiencing uncertain housing. The event will take place Thursday, June 16, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church, 5340 Third Street. Veterans must provide their ID cards or DD Forms 214.

The Stand Down offers immediate intervention support in the form of supplies and housing, employment services and other community resource information. Lunch will be served by Vet Connect volunteers.

Resources will be offered covering a variety of topics including veterans’ services, MPIC VetWorks, housing and homeless assistance, employment, safe medication disposal, emergency preparedness, employment assistance, child support assistance, respite care, and Woodland Community College, behavioral health, and substance abuse counseling services.

“In the military, ‘Stand Down’ afforded battle-weary soldiers the opportunity to renew their spirits, enjoy warm meals, receive medical and dental care, mail and receive letters, and enjoy the camaraderie of friends in a safe environment,” says Vet Connect Chair Chris Taliaferro.

“Today, ‘Stand Down’ refers to grassroots, community-based intervention programs designed to help the nation’s homeless veterans ‘combat’ life on the streets. Homeless veterans are invited to a single location and are provided access to the community resources needed to begin addressing their individual problems and start rebuilding their lives,” adds Taliaferro.

Vet Connect committee members are asking the public to spread the word regarding the event so that local homeless or near homeless veterans can be reached and may benefit from the support available.

For more information, contact Taliaferro at christopher.taliaferro@edd.ca.gov or Nikki Derr at (707) 234-9950. For updates, visit the Vet Connect Hookup Hub on Facebook.
