BLM to host Central California Resource Advisory Council virtual meeting

The Bureau of Land Management Central California Resource Advisory Council (RAC) will meet virtually on Wednesday, June 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The public is welcome to participate but must register in advance.

Bakersfield Field Manager Gabe Garcia will discuss with the RAC and the public the Recreation Area Management Plan anticipated to be developed for the Keysville Special Recreation Management Area. The RAC will also hear from other field managers about recent impacts on BLM-managed public lands due to increased outdoor recreation, project updates from the district and field offices, wildland fire updates and fuel reduction activities.

“We are looking forward to discussing the Keysville area with the public and our partners as well as impacts of increased recreation, projects throughout the district, and wildland fire prevention activities,” said Central Coast District Manager Chris Heppe. “By getting involved in these efforts, we all can help shape the future management of our public lands.”

The public can register in advance at https://tinyurl.com/bdcs7kz7. Registrants will receive a link and phone number to join the meeting. The public will be given an opportunity to address the RAC during the meeting at noon. Time for individual public comments may be limited due to the number of persons wishing to speak. Written statements to address the council may also be sent prior to the meeting to the BLM Central California District Office, Attention: RAC meeting comments, 5152 Hillsdale Circle, El Dorado Hills, CA  95762.

The 12-member council advises the Secretary of the Interior, through the BLM, on a variety of planning and management issues associated with BLM public lands in central California. The BLM maintains 38 chartered advisory committees throughout the West. Each citizen-based council consists of members from diverse interests in local communities, who assist in the development of committee recommendations by sharing their unique perspectives.

LAKE COUNTY

Lake County Region Recreational and Aquatics Facility Survey available now

Maintaining an active lifestyle is vital to our long-term health.  Having options, a variety of fitness activities, particularly if they are relatively close to where we live, can help each of us more consistently make positive choices.

The County of Lake, in collaboration with the Cities of Lakeport and Clearlake and the Lake County Office of Education, invites your input regarding the future of recreational amenities in our region.

We hired a consulting team to develop a multi-phase Feasibility Study that explores planning, funding and operational implications of a recreational and/or aquatics facility.

Our collective mission is to provide a haven for all community members to access fitness and health-related services.  We are working to provide a safe and healthy environment for all Lake County community members to develop a passion for fitness and health, engage in the community and support our neighbors to live our best lives.

What are your recreational and aquatics facilities needs and desires?  What’s missing in your community?

Please complete the Lake County Region Recreational and Aquatics Facility Survey by June 20, 2022: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/R2FGY2J

In recent months, the Blue Zones Project Lake County has been working to educate residents on ways to transform our well-being at our worksites, schools, restaurants, grocery stores, community organizations and more: https://lc.bluezonesproject.com/home; https://www.facebook.com/bzplakecounty

Developing and maintaining robust recreational amenities is one way we can move our communities forward, and promote better long-term health outcomes in Lake County.  To effectively target our approach, and develop the right amenities in the right communities, we need to hear from you.

This is the last summer you can travel by air within the U.S. without a federally accepted form of identification, get a REAL ID now

Summer is here! This season is one of the most popular times to travel and if you or your family members are planning a summer vacation, make sure to check off getting your REAL ID from your travel checklist. Wherever your summer vacation is taking you, REAL ID is your ticket to fly! This time next summer, federal regulations will require you to show a REAL ID driver’s license or another federally approved form of identification (passport, military ID, etc.) to travel within the U.S. and to visit secure federal facilities (military bases, federal courthouses). Note that a REAL ID cannot be used for international travel, a passport is still required.

Q1: My children are 7 and 11 years old. Will they need REAL IDs to fly to Florida next summer?

A1: No. The TSA does not require anyone under the age of 18 to provide identification when traveling with a companion within the United States. However, the companion will need a form of federally accepted identification (REAL ID, U.S. Passport, U.S. Passport Card, DHS Trusted Traveler Card, etc.).

Q2: Which documents will I need to get a REAL ID?

A2: You will need 1 original or certified proof of identity and 2 different printed proofs of California residency. Follow the three simple steps below and visit dmv.ca.gov/realid to start your REAL ID application and view a complete list of acceptable documents:
