LAKEPORT— Authorities arrested a 27-year-old yard worker from Denton, Texas living in Lakeport Sunday in association with an incident which resulted in evacuations and road closures after the Lakeport Police Department discovered a suspicions device at 1190 N. Forbes. Evacuation orders were put in place and a Nixle alert went out to residents in the early afternoon.
According to reports, a “destructive device” was found outside of Saint John’s Episcopal Church Sunday morning which led to the arrest of Kayden Daniel Collins. He was arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail on charges of possession of the device. The Napa County Bomb squad rendered the device safe and was further examined by officials for evidential purposes.
Agencies involved included the Lakeport Public Works, Lakeport Fire Protection District, the Northshore Fire Protection District Response Support Team, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, among others.
Residents were then alerted of road closures on 11th Street at Tunis Street and High Street at 14th and other residential streets. Evacuees from the suspicious device were welcome to get out of the heat Sunday which at times topped 100 degrees at Lakeport City Hall.
Evacuation orders were lifted according to a city alert, at approximately 3:45 p.m.
According to LCSO booking logs, Collins was booked on charges of resisting arrest and possession of a destructive device and held on $10,000 bail. Arraignment on the matter was scheduled for Tuesday.
