MIDDLETOWN — The varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams from Middletown, Lower Lake and Upper Lake high schools play their first matches of the 2022 season this weekend during the Middletown Summer Spikefest at Middletown High School.
Varsity teams play Friday and JV teams Saturday at the Tallman Gym.
The eight-team varsity bracket Friday will be divided into two four-team, round-robin pools with host Middletown, North Hills Christian of Vallejo, Lower Lake and Fortuna comprising Pool 1 while Upper Lake, Willits, Ferndale and International (San Francisco) play in Pool 2.
The six-team JV bracket Saturday features host Middletown, Fortuna and Lower Lake in Pool 1 and Upper Lake, Ferndale and Willits in Pool 2.
All matches will be best two out of three with 25-point first and second sets and a 15-point third set if necessary.
Pool results determine seeding for the playoff round. A series of tiebreakers will be used to break any pool play ties (match record, head-to-head results, sets won and lost).
Pool play both days begins at 8:30 a.m. while the gym opens at 7:30 a.m.
Admission to the gym is $5 for adults. Students are free. There will be a snack bar open and custom tournament T-shirts on sale.
