LAKEPORT— The Lake County Board of Supervisors held their weekly meeting at 9 a.m. in the Lakeport County Courthouse and online via Zoom Tuesday. This week the supervisors appointed Mireya Turner to Interim Community Development Director, as well as appointing seats on the Emergency Medical Care Committee and Lakeport Fire Protection District. The Lake County Resource Conservation District also gave their annual report.
During closed session the board appointed Community Development Deputy Director Mireya Turner as interim Director effective immediately considering current Director Mary Darby had submitted her resignation and changed her departure date to Friday August 12. Turner is currently a member of Lakeport City Council and has served in that position since 2014.
According to a press release from County Deputy Administrator Matthew Rothstein, “Turner brings eight years of experience in county and city planning activities. Most recently, she served as CDD’s Deputy Director, following three years of service with the City of Ukiah, all in management and leadership roles.” Turner is looking forward to her temporary position, she noted, “I am honored to take on the interim director position. During her time with the County of Lake, [Director Darby] made great improvements to the department, including building a superb team of qualified and professional staff. I look forward to working with them to achieve the excellent level of public service our residents deserve.” The board is also excited for Turner’s acceptance of the temporary position with Chair of the Board District 3 Supervisor Eddie Crandell sharing, “Her combination of experience and education, and recent service as Deputy Director, made her the logical choice. As members of the public will also be aware, recruitment for a permanent Community Development Director is ongoing, and we look forward to conducting interviews soon.”
The board also appointed seats on both the Emergency Medical Care Committee and Lakeport Fire Protection District. Edward Beltran was appointed to the EMCC and David Brown was appointed to the LFPD.
Lake County’s Resource Conservation District gave their annual report presented by Dr. Harry Lyons. Lyons discussed progress and problems, beginning the presentation with a request that the board assist them in filling two vacancies on their board of directors as well as several employment positions. The presentation also included ongoing projects both large and small, including an annual Weed Tour at Anderson Marsh, field trips for local schools and scholarship programs while bigger projects include two recent reforestation projects. District 5 Supervisor Jessica Pyska said, “We can’t lose our RCD. Even as we’re looking at the funding coming down for forest health and fire prevention through CAL Fire from the state, that funding is intended to go through RCD’s and fire safe councils, and we struggle in both of those areas in our county so it’s really important we figure out how to make this work and we’ll all start looking for replacements for those board members.”
