Turner leaves; council to hold public hearing on various entitlements for the Parkside Residential Project.

As of August 30, 2022, Lakeport Mayor Pro Tem Mireya Turner has announced her resignation from the city council due to her acceptance of a new employment position with the county as its new Economic Development Director.

During the Tuesday, September 6, 2022, Lakeport City Council meeting, the council will nominate a new Mayor Pro Tem and consider options on how to fill the vacancy.

The council will have 60 days to either appoint someone to fill the vacancy or call a special election to be held on the date of the next regularly established election that is at least 114 days after the special election is called.

The council will also hold a public hearing on various entitlements for the Parkside Residential Project. This includes a General Plan amendment, Zoning Code amendment and an approval of a Mitigated Negative Declaration under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

Phase 1 consisted of 31 lots. Of those, 17 were constructed with homes and 14 lots remain vacant but available for development. Phase 2 and Phase 3 did not submit for a final map, was never developed and the tentative vesting map has now expired.

Waterstone Residential submitted an application for the Parkside Residential Project that would modify the original project to include 128 multi-family dwellings and 48 attached and detached single-family dwellings in a small-lot subdivision format.

This application does not fit current General Plan land use designation so it will require an updated amendment.

Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire’s Statement on nation-leading climate action approved by the Legislature

Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire was appointed by Senate President Toni Atkins, along with a select group of legislators, to help negotiate and hammer out the details of California’s historic climate action package that was passed last week in the final hours of the 2022 legislative session. Multiple bills and a historic climate action budget were approved by both the California State Senate and Assembly.

“(This) action in the Legislature represents some of the most consequential steps in our state’s history to combat the climate crisis. Working with the Governor and his team, the Senate and Assembly will now be sending some of America’s most aggressive climate legislation, along with a historic $54 billion climate action budget, to Mr. Newsom’s desk,” McGuire noted.

“Californians are already feeling the impacts of the climate crisis with larger and more intense wildfires, record heat and a historic drought. State leaders must continue to set aside their differences and move with speed to implement data driven policies that will ensure a more resilient future. We’re incredibly grateful for the leadership of Governor Newsom, President Atkins and Speaker Rendon who came together to advance this consequential legislation and funding that will positively impact generations of Californians.”

AB 257, the Fast Food Accountability and Standards Recovery Act by Assemblymember Chris Holden (D-Pasadena), authorizes the creation of the Fast Food Council comprised of representatives from labor and management to set minimum standards for workers in the industry, including for wages, conditions related to health and safety, security in the workplace, the right to take time off from work for protected purposes and protection from discrimination and harassment.

“California is committed to ensuring that the men and women who have helped build our world-class economy are able to share in the state’s prosperity,” said Newsom. “I’m proud to sign this legislation on Labor Day when we pay tribute to the workers who keep our state running as we build a stronger, more inclusive economy for all Californians.”

Members of the Fast Food Council at the Department of Industrial Relations will include fast food workers and their advocates, franchisees, franchisors and representatives from the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development and the Department of Industrial Relations.
