UPPER LAKE — Jacob Weldon’s 168 rushing yards and two touchdowns propelled the Northshore Cougars varsity youth football team to a 44-14 win over Fort Bragg on Saturday night in Upper Lake.
Weldon was one of two Upper Lake running backs to crack the century mark as teammate Jubilee Faalelea added 136 yards and three TDs.
Also reaching the end zone for Northshore (1-1) were Gavin Dooley (54 yards rushing, TD) and Eric Tinoco (46 yards rushing, TD).
Corbin Woolley had two catches for 57 yards, one of them a toe-dragging reception near the sidelines that kept a Cougars drive alive on a third-and-6 play.
Fort Bragg took the early lead with a 66-yard rushing touchdown, but Northshore responded with a 45-yard score by Faalelea. Fort Bragg scored again on a 77-yard TD pass, but again the Cougars came right back with a score of their own, this time on a Weldon touchdown run.
Fort Bragg was threatening again when the Northshore defense came up with a huge stop.
Leading the Cougars on defense were Brody Blancas with 13 tackles, including three quarterback sacks. Other standouts were Mason Parker and Samuel Ambrecht.
