Hommer’s 119 yards, two TDs rushing spark Knights in league opener

LAKEPORT — Max Hommer rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns and Michael DeJohn returned a kickoff 79 yards for a score and had a 16-yard TD reception as the Kelseyville High School junior varsity football team beat the Clear Lake Cardinals 41-19 in the North Central League I opener for both teams Friday night in Lakeport.

Kelseyville (1-0 league, 3-1 overall) used a big second half to pull away from Clear Lake (0-1, 1-3).

Knights quarterback Brock Barrick completed four passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns, including a 46-yard TD strike to Tyler Bryant.

Led by Hommer and DeJohn (60 yards rushing), the Knights finished with 254 yards on the ground.

Jose Juarez converted five of six extra-point tries for the Knights.

On defense, Bryant and DeJohn each led the Knights with seven tackles and Hommer had six and Adam Astrup four. Jeff Ballard added three tackles and an interception.

Clear Lake scoring and statistics were not reported.

Kelseyville is home this Friday to play Fort Bragg while Clear Lake is on the road at Middletown.
