LAKEPORT — Michael Knight Jr. scored on a 6-yard run in the third quarter for the only points of the game as the Westshore Cardinals shut out the Lower Lake Trojans 6-0 in Mendo-Lake Empire Youth Football League pee wee division action Saturday in Lakeport.
Westshore improved to 4-2 on the season with the help of a pair of touchdown-saving tackles by Chance Poland, the first one near the end of the first half and the other near the end of the game when he came all the way across the field to run down a Lower Lake player.
A quarterback sack by Knight Jr. sealed the victory.
Luke Percaccio’s 60-yard run set up the winning touchdown by Knight Jr. in the third quarter.
Anthony Burroughs led Westshore’s defense with eight solo tackles while Knight Jr. and Percaccio each had five. Joseph Szupello Jr. added four tackles and recovered a fumble.
Lower Lake is now 3-2.
Both teams are back in action this Saturday when Lower Lake visits Cloverdale (1-4) and Westshore plays at Northshore (2-3) in Upper Lake.
In other games involving Lower Lake and Westshore last week, Lower Lake’s varsity prevailed 25-7 while Lower Lake’s junior varsity won 28-21.
